Why Simple Math Doesn't Work for GPA Conversion
Many Indian students make the mistake of dividing their 8.0 CGPA by 10 and multiplying by 4, arriving at 3.2 GPA. In reality, American admissions officers and WES evaluate grades based on your class percentile distribution.
In India, only the top 1% to 2% score above 9.0, whereas in the US, an 'A' grade is awarded to the top 20% to 25% of students. Consequently, an Indian 8.0 to 8.5 CGPA typically translates to an impressive 3.6 to 3.8 on the US 4.0 scale.
